Gfeb

The G-FEB project aims to improve the Vocational Education and Training (VET) system in the Balkan region by creating innovative, market-specific training solutions.

These solutions will offer lifelong learning opportunities and promote the development of green and sustainability skills among female entrepreneurs. The project addresses several challenges in the Balkan region and Turkey, including low- quality vocational education and training, unemployment rates, particularly among women and vulnerable groups, skill mismatch with the labour market, and a lack of green initiatives.

The project’s objectives include developing VET curricula on green entrepreneurship, bridging the gap between the VET sector and the labour market, building the capacity of VET teachers and trainers, enhancing cooperation between public and private stakeholders, developing the green and digital skills of VET teachers, trainers, and women entrepreneurs, and training women in green entrepreneurship.
The consortium comprises eight organizations from Greece, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Türkiye, and Austria. These partners will leverage their expertise in vocational education and training, supporting women entrepreneurs, and facilitating access to the labour market to produce high-quality outcomes and maximize impact on the target groups.
The G-FEB project is designed to emphasize the importance of vocational education in the green entrepreneurship sector and the community’s responsibility to shift towards greener, more sustainable practices combined with smart specializations and digitalization. Here’s a summary of its impact on various target groups:
Participant Organizations:
1. They will enhance their expertise in greener practices, aligning with Environmental Footprint methods, which will aid in supporting green enterprises.
2. They will evaluate their training programs and mobilities with the help of participants and stakeholders, providing feedback for improvement and recognition for their programs/activities.
3. Their networks will expand as the 8 organizations in this partnership collaborate with their stakeholders, fostering future cooperation.
4. They will gain experience in managing EU projects, learning about EU working behaviour, and enhancing their corporate capacity.
Trainers and Learners:
1. They will have transnational learning opportunities through trainings and study visits, returning with increased knowledge and new insights.
2. They will improve their skills by sharing their previous implementations and gaining skills from the training programs.
3. Their professional network will expand by establishing relationships with stakeholders from other participating countries.
4. They will increase their role as ambassadors of green practices, acting as a bridge between this new approach and SMEs.
SMEs:
1. They will receive materials and new staff skilled in these practices to adopt a greener perspective.
2. They will directly receive the project outcomes for implementation, spurring further research to adopt greener practices in the business sector.
3. They will become familiar with Erasmus programs and organizations experienced in them, potentially leading to future collaborations.
VET Institutions:
1. They will improve in identified areas of weakness via the training materials G- FEB will offer.
2. They will engage people from vulnerable groups, especially women.
E-Learning
Social entrepreneurship is often underestimated within the EU. Social businesses employ over 11 million people in the EU which equals to 6% of total employment. Research has furthermore shown that many women are struggling with unemployment and lack of social perspectives, especially in small and rural communities. Overall, 9.5% of women in the EU are unemployed and are still facing barriers to employment, such as fewer promotional opportunities. In the area of selfemployment, the numbers are not much more promising; only 34.4% of women in Europe are self-employed even though being the larger population group (52% of the total European population is female). Social entrepreneurship can address these challenges. On the one hand, the EC has stated that Social Enterprises ‘generate sustainable jobs and have a stronger resilience to the crisis than the general economy’ social entrepreneurship combines innovation and social inclusion, and hereby it broadly contributes to the objectives of the EU2020 strategy. On the other hand, women who do decide to set up their own business often choose to do this in the areas of health, social-work, services or education, areas that correlate deeply with the ‘social’ aspect of social entrepreneurship. Bringing both elements together gives the EU-community an opportunity to further develop the under-exploited creativity and entrepreneurial potential of women, in turn leading to economic growth and employability.
The “Balkan Women Coalition vol. II – Social Start-Up Booster for Supporting Female entrepreneurship in Balkans” project is developed between 7 countries from the Balkan Region and aims to close the continuous entrepreneurial skills gap and lack of knowledge about social entrepreneurship among women, through an innovative approach that brings together women, social entrepreneurship and angel investment in a unique programme that will increase the number of successful social enterprises across Europe, improve gender equality and raise awareness of the importance of self-employment initiatives that focus on the support of social, cultural, or environmental issues.
The project is working on the preparation and piloting of the following main outputs:
  • Output 1 – “Development of a skills assessment framework for social entrepreneurship” including country and overall reserach and analysis
  • Output 2 – “Social Enterprise Booster Circle Methodology”. Development of a Facilitator’s Guide and Social Enterprise Booster Circle materials and training. training the facilitators.
  • Output 3 – “Social Enterprise Booster Circle for Women – A Comprehensive Training Programme”. This package is focused on the implementation of the SE Booster Circles and the training activities offered to the project’s target group
  • Output 4 – “Boost Your Social Enterprise – Building a sustainable network of business angels”. This package is focused on the development of the pitching platform and a Business
  • Angels Network for social entrepreneurs
The partnership will address and combine the areas of social entrepreneurship and female entrepreneurship, as these are both under-recognised and under-represented in the EU, in order to equip women who are currently running a social enterprise or are thinking of setting up a social enterprise with the skills, knowledge, best practices and latest community – based funding opportunities to set up and develop their ideas.

Through the development and piloting of the Pitching and E-learning Platform the project partners will build a socially engaged community by equipping it with an innovative and community-driven approach to attract funding and realise socially important project and initiatives. The project will develop a network of experts that will facilitate, build and ensure the sustainability of the project tools and results.

Increased skills, together with increased recognition of female social entrepreneurship will in turn increase women’s social inclusion as they are empowered to follow their selfemployment path. Particular emphasis will therefore also be given to women facing a double disadvantage (disabled women and women from rural areas) as they are even more under-represented in entrepreneurship. Between 25 and 50% of participants will be women facing a double disadvantage.

Finally, the Balkan Women Colaition II project will increase awareness amongst policymakers through its training materails, outlining how to make social enterprise support more accessible and inclusive to women and double disadvantaged women. The project will hereby enable women to get their voices heard by policymakers and will help promote the importance of making social enterprise support available to the target group, and ensure that more women across Europe can set up their social businesses.

Heart of Europe, project HE-ART (link to the project website), has actually been forming for as long as the project GEOSS has operated – the project of the centre of the heart of Slovenia – since the year 1981.

The builders of GEOSS have dedicated themselves to being led by the thought, taken from the poem Zdravljica, the hearty toast of our greatest poet Prance Prešern, with which he toast all nations that want to live in peace, unity and connectedness. In the year 1991, after Slovenia’s independence this part became the national anthem that connects in friendship, and heartily enlightens us, all of us, on a personal, national, and international level.

GEOSS MISSION STATEMENT

The project has its source in the mission of GEOSS, transferring the symbolic Slovenian heart values of the central point of the heart of Slovenia. Just as the mission of GEOSS was shaped in 1981 by the leading builders of this project: the instigator Jože Dernovšek and the author Peter Svetik. They wanted to create a point that would, through self-discovery and self-acceptance, ensure connecting, friendship, compassion, and interpersonal acceptance of all people, regardless of their differences, ways of thinking and belonging. The international spreading of the project in 2012 with the International Friendship Day a Crow’s Flight to Freedom was set up by Anka Kolenc.

THE PROJECT HEART OF EUROPE

  • Project partner organizations from seven countries are cooperating in this project. Aside from Slovenia these are: Italy, France, Albania, Bulgaria, Sweden, Spain, and Greece.
  • Duration of the project: 1. 1. 2018 to 31. 12. 2019.
  • Project funding: 150.000 € (financed by the Education, Culture and Audio-visual Executive Agency (EACEA).
  • The purpose of the project is international cooperation and creating and establishing the permanent network of Heart Points with the attributes that have their source in the noble mission of GEOSS. At each of the meetings, a Heart Point, like GEOSS in Slovenia is going to be established.
  • Each International cultural Heart Point is going to be a creative centre, where members are going to conceive, develop, shape, and execute cultural events. Events are going to, along with introducing cultural heritage, also promote heart values like acceptance of differences, understanding, humaneness, friendship and solidarity, heartfelt connecting with the retention of one’s own identity, compassion, and long-term survival on Earth – on personal, national, and international level.
  • With the network HE-ART, an example of cultural tourism is going to be set up, and with it, the pulse of a Heart Point – that is going to work for the local community, the motherland, and for international cooperation and connecting. Among others, we are going to address the problems of the youth, unemployment, globalisation, immigration, and stigmatization of immigrants, European citizenship, Euroscepticism, and other problems that permeate life today.

ACTIVITIES BEFORE THE FIRST EVENT IN SLOVENIA

In this period of time we have acquainted ourselves closer with our partners whilst preparing the essential documentation, because with the exception of France and Italy, we have not yet cooperated with these partners. They have prepared the documentation, that was going to enable co-financing and fluid work: communication and financial plans, they have coordinated the dates of our group events in each country which is going to strengthen visibility, and alongside that they have made an event timetable by months that is going to enable them to not miss any of the planned tasks. During that time they have also signed the Partnership Agreements with which they obligated themselves that out Heart Points are going to run permanently, that is, also after the funds for their start-up have been used up. Because the funds are limited by the large number of the participating partner organizations, they have also made haste with the travel plans and have in large part arranged the transportations to 6 future European Heart Points, with two Heart Points not being planned to getting visited. In this time there is ongoing communication with the lecturers that are familiar with the basic problems of the workings of EU.

The aim of the project is also to equip youths with competences аnd methods which will help them to promote better understanding аnd respect among people coming from different аreаs, with different backgrounds. The training course involves partners from 11 different countries, some of which are EU members states, some of them-not, which will allow the exchange of experience and expertise on the topic of the course within different geographical and economic realities.

Promoting technical and management capacities of partner staff and development experts is essential to manage change processes and institutional reform and, thus, to sustainable development. We aim at supporting our partners and clients in implementing holistic capacity development processes. To make a long-lasting contribution we not only focus on knowledge transfer but intend to enhance development practitioners’ practical competencies.
